ANTISCIA 2019

Reflections / Shadows / Symmetries  =  Antiscia

Planets in antiscia and contra-antiscia reflect each other across the cardinal axis. This axis is formed by the four seasonal turning points: the zero degree entry point of each cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn). The cardinal axis is essentially the node of the Sun and is a point we all share. It is the intersection of two Great Circles: the ecliptic (which is the sun's path, i.e., the tropical zodiac,) and the earth's equator. Planets connect in antiscia when they reflect or mirror one another across this axis. Like a planetary statement made by two planets in aspect or conjunction, planets in antiscia make a terrestrial (or mundane) statement: a statement for the world which is relevant to everyone. Therefore planets in antiscia can provide insight into the energy of the day, as well as help to enrich your natal and dynamic chart delineations. More on antiscia here...

To use the list of monthly antiscia below, simply blend the meanings of planets in combination.

  • All connections are within 30 minutes of arc or less.

  • Dates showing one planet indicate its ingress onto the cardinal axis (meaning it's at zero degrees cardinal and ought to feature prominently that day).

  • Those with *c indicate contra-antiscia: symmetrical arrangement around the Aries/Libra axis: the signs of equal rising.

  • All others are antiscia, meaning they are in positions of equal power (sharing equal light).

  • Ketu = south lunar node. Rahu = north lunar node

For delineating planetary pairs, you may want to utilize books I reference on this page, or use an online resource like this one by John Sandbach. Or simply apply basic astrological understanding of the planets. Think of the pairs and combinations as conjunctions; and remember you can consider their shared or reflected dignity and reception.

For 2019, note the long-standing Jupiter Saturn +Node antiscia from July into late September.

Jupiter + Saturn = Patience and Perseverance [Ebertin]

Jupiter/Saturn = Node: The desire to terminate an association. (Yes, please.)

Only a few major antiscia signatures this month. Chiron is, however, on the Aries Point for all of April. It makes its ingress into Aries mid-month (April 17th). This makes it the focal point for many antiscia/contra-antiscions . . . including Venus Node, Venus Mars, Mercury Neptune, Jupiter Node.

Monday, April 30th
Mercury Neptune joins Venus Mars and Jupiter Node while Chiron sits in very early Aries
The Moon joining Jupiter may set off something pretty spectacular!

Check out the Mars Saturn reflection foreshadowing, in a way, their conjunction in the Aries ingress chart (below). This conjunction of the two heavyweight, highly dignified malefics, on the setting angle no less, is rare. The last time the ingress contained the two in Capricorn was 1988, before that 1813, and before that: 1783, 1608 1578, 1576, 1371, 1341, 1166, 1136..... (We will see another one in 2020.)

ANTISCIA Jan/2013

Planets in antiscia and contra-antiscia reflect one another across the cardinal axis. The cardinal axis (also known as the Aries Point) is essentially the node of the Sun, and is a point we all share. When planets connect by antiscia or contra-antiscia, a planetary pair is formed. These pairs provide insight into the energy of the day as well as enriching natal chart delineation. Why antiscia...

Happy New Year!
The first day of 2013 finds Venus Pluto in antiscion. In Reinhold Ebertin's classic text, The Combination of Stellar Influences, keywords for Venus Pluto include: "Fanatic love, the desire for sensual pleasure, lasciviousness" as well as "A strong feeling of love... an unusual measure of procreative power, a special artistic giftedness". These planets (falling in Sagittarius and Capricorn respectively) are active for everyone on this day - and have to do with the development (Pluto) of love, harmony, hope, and creativity (Venus). What does this mean for you as you set intentions for the new year?

To use the list below, simply blend the meanings of the planets in combination.

  • Bold dates indicate a particular planetary expression is exact (within 10 minutes of arc).
  • Dates showing only one planet indicate its ingress into a cardinal sign (meaning: it is sitting directly on the cardinal axis and so should feature prominently that day).
  • Those with a (c) indicate contra-antiscia - symmetrical arrangements around the Aries/Libra axis.
  • The date(s) the planetary pair is formed is listed on the left - the date & time of perfection is listed on the right.

January 2013

(day of month) (day/time – all times PST)
