Antiscia in Astrology: Sharing Power Through Shadows and Light
This five-week course explores the mirrored light symmetries of antiscia and contra-antiscia as powerful expressions of cosmological balance. Rooted in classical astrology and reflective geometry, these luminous pairings reveal hidden correspondences between signs that share light or ascensional time. Through the lens of Hellenistic cosmology and a subtle attention to the anima mundi—the ensouled world—we will engage both technical and poetic approaches to seeing these polarities as invitations to balance, dialogue, and shared agency. Students will work with timing techniques, artistic interpretation, and creative synthesis to integrate antiscia into both personal and professional astrological practice.
The root of antiscia is the Greek word “scia,” meaning “shadow” or “shade.” Antiscia bring signs together through reflection across the seasonal turning points (solstitial and equinoctial axes), expressing symmetry and beauty through shared power and light (antiscia) - and time (contra-antiscia).
In this course you will explore how to deepen your astrological practice with antiscia. You will see how their presence in the Thema Mundi has profound implications. These “equal arc openings” will change how you look at the space between things and broaden your view of fundamental concepts in astrology.
